Wine and Spirits in Social Media
Like Cocktails? Follow these top accounts on Instagram!
Alcohol in pictures? Sign me up! We live in a fast, ever-changing world, and if you, as a consumer or a business, are not on the social media bandwagon at least participating and/or scrolling through at least one platform, well, you should be. Content Marketing, i.e., videos, blogs, and social media posts, is the future wave of connecting marketers (brands) with consumers (us). And while watching the clever TV ads during Super Bowl is humorous, I am sure once you find your favorite products’ pictures on Instagram, you will be engaging and ogling over your favorite beverages and their beautiful, creative content in no time.
Like social media, wine and spirits are a big part of my life, so I am constantly scrolling through numerous brands to find a new drink or cocktail innovation. At the same time, it’s important to me that a brand’s marketing is authentic and credible, not gimmicky or deceptive. I want to know the story, learn the history, and understand the brand personally. Instagram is my favorite platform, and below are a few alcohol brands that I feel hit the mark regarding my engagement, desire to view, and need to interact and emotionally connect with the content. In short, their credible stories make me want to try their products, purchase and continue to be fascinated and excited to follow whichever direction the brand may take.
Now, let’s talk alcohol! (Must be legal drinking age to read this!)
Jameson Whiskey – @jamesonwhiskey jameson_us
I grew up with brothers, so I love watching sports, especially when copious amounts of junk food and cocktails, and the Packers are playing! Jameson (International & US) wins hands down in providing updates for sports fans, plus fun gimmicks like final four brackets or champion celebration posts. I enjoy a brand that engages in various categories such as sports, holidays, and guest bartenders, and I will even teach you how to say “cheers” in Gaelic (FYI, it’s sláinte). I like to see a brand mix it up, and Jameson does that for me, while also giving me the urge to have a shot of whiskey with my beer this weekend!
Sailor Jerry Rum – @sailorjerry
If you like creative, artistic graphics, this is the page for you. This account has vivid illustrations, clever, stimulating artwork, and drawings that make you want to delve into your innovative, artistic side. I love how edgy each post is and how descriptive and illustrative the photos are. Tattoos are not my thing, but that’s why I love their account, as it allows me to live creatively through others’ artwork while wanting to enjoy a rum cocktail along the way!
Monkey 47 – @monkey47_dry_gin
As a gin lover, I have been a fan of this brand since its inception. It’s the full package of what I am looking for, and their social media presence and connection with bartenders and consumers make me love them even more. Their Instagram account provides visual, informative, and educational material, all crucial elements I look for in a spirits account. Their content makes me feel involved and connected, and you know what that means–happy hour with the Monkey!
Grey Goose Vodka – @greygoose
Full disclosure, I have always been partial to this brand since I was an integral part of the launch when I worked for the brand’s creator. Since then, I have been extremely impressed with how the Bacardi company has taken the brand and helped the Goose soar even higher. I am a huge Martini fan, no fluff added, but the brand’s vivid and creative images of new, creative drinks have me stepping out of my traditional martini zone and exploring new crafty cocktails I would never have tried. I’ll take the Le Grand Fizz, please! (Grey Goose, St-Germain Elderflower, soda water, and lime).
Knob Creek Bourbon Whiskey – @knobcreek
Nothing beats sitting around a campfire with friends and family or relaxing outdoors on the porch swing with your lover. Warm, rustic, and down-to-earth is how I feel when perusing the Knob Creek page. Nothing ritzy or glamorous, just real, down-home middle America and the reminder to enjoy who you are with. I’ve got the bottle; you bring the marshmallows, and let’s venture out to the great outdoors and enjoy mother nature–that’s what matters.
Corona – @corona
If you watch TV I’m sure you have seen Corona’s advertising, which for a brief 30 seconds, makes you feel like you are at the beach. Well, their Instagram page will whisk you away to that talcum powder sand beach with a cold one just as quickly. You can always count on Corona to help you “find your beach,” and when the boss is a nag or the office paperwork never ends, hop over to Corona’s Instagram account and let their pics take you away, if even for 30 seconds; sometimes that’s all you need.
Perrier-Jouët Champagne – @perrierjouet
We already know what a fan of bubbles I am, so it’s expected me to be an avid follower of all the big champagne houses. Not only is Perrier-Jouët one of my favorites, but I adore their classy bottle and artwork design, simple yet elegant and refined. Their pictures are light, fun, and festive, and they make me want to grab a blanket, baguette, and a few flutes and have a picnic under the Eiffel Tower or relax on the river Seine.
Just as we look at new food recipes for another way to cook a chicken, we can now do the same with our preferred alcohol choices. Social media gives us the tools to be inspired and motivated to sip a new drink and step outside our normal vodka soda or dull rum and coke. Look around and follow new brands you may otherwise not check out when scrolling through Instagram. You could be surprised what new cocktails you’ll ask your local bartender to whip up this weekend!
